1. Introduction to Vascular and Interventional Centre

VIC also provides the treatment package for couples with special needs: those who require angiography and procedures in the morning can have the preliminary assessment the evening before. The treatment package includes a minimum 1-night hospital stay so that patients who undergo procedures in the afternoon or evening sessions do not need to leave or check-in late at the hospital after the general visiting hours. The benefits – not required dunking, the preparing for hospital, the administrative aspect during admission, and most importantly, the idling waiting can be handled efficiently. All patients who go through outpatient treatments for therapy are covered by this treatment package. With that amount, patients can already have the treatment package cost listed without the anxiety of coming up short due to an incorrect assessment.

The Vascular and Interventional Centre (VIC) is one of the premier centers in the region that is dedicated purely for minimally invasive vascular treatments. We are located in Singapore and are able to serve and provide an extensive range of services and medical treatments to patients from various geographical areas. This therapy concept has been defined in medicine as “Endovascular minimally invasive treatment”. Bearing with it, a conventional healthy diagnosis must be changed with the minimally invasive characteristic – a shift in direction to promote less morbidity through the operation procedure.

2. Treatment of Varicose Veins

The international standard for the treatment of varicose veins is Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT). This entails the surgeon to walk a tightrope with the vein and insert a laser fiber into the vein so that laser light can destroy the vein. The surgeon is bombarded with intense x-rays to imagine the position of the very thin wound which is about 5-7mm in size. It is easy to understand why the procedure is best done with lots of experience. Newer technologies such as the Diode Laser, which is introduced by VAMC used in Vietnam, and that of the 1470 nm Laser from Starwalker can allow sealing of veins more quickly with less pain and discomfort without so much exposure to radiation.

It is a common misconception that varicose veins are only a cosmetic problem. In fact, about 40% of people aged 60 and over have varicose veins. There are many celebrities with bulging varicose veins, which only demonstrate that vein disease affects everyone and is not just a result of standing or sitting. Varicose veins are a result of the return of pressure and volume of blood from the lower to upper body. Most people see these veins, and the only effective treatment is to close them so that the blood will flow to plum straight veins deep in the muscles of the legs. This will also resolve leg aches and correct any ankle swelling. The discussion of the cause of varicose veins is vast. Some veins and their valves sit in places that are not seen to result in bulging veins but result in other complications such as strain on the body’s plumbing, which can result in kidney failure due to toxins being filtered out too slowly or ulcers which are hard to heal due to poor body healing chemicals because of poor circulation to the skin in the extremities. We offer treatment of varicose veins in Singapore.

3. Vascular Vein Disease in Singapore

Diseases that affect this network of blood vessels in the body can be broadly divided into arterial diseases and venous diseases. The arterial diseases are by far the most common, as many of their diseases are due to arteriosclerosis where plaques of cholesterol collect along the inner lining of the arteries. This leads to narrowing and blockage of the artery, and if the artery is an important artery to a vital organ, this can result in a heart attack, stroke, leg amputation, etc. There are many medical and lifestyle interventions that would help to prevent and treat these arterial diseases. For instance, one should watch their cholesterol level, salt intake, stop smoking, control their diabetes, hypertension, etc. There are also medicines and treatments that can help an at-risk patient prevent or treat these diseases if they happen. Regular blood pressure screening, blood tests, etc. are also very important in detecting these problems early and reducing their risk. In comparison to arterial diseases, venous diseases like varicose veins, and other less well-understood conditions like venous thrombosis (clots) (DVT) and phlebolymphoedema are much less common in Singapore. Our vascular surgeons can provide treatments for vascular vein disease Singapore.

4. Minimally Invasive Treatment for Peripheral Arterial Disease

PAD treatment involves lifestyle modification, medication, and occasionally invasive treatment. The lifestyle modifications may include medical care in a wound care clinic for diabetic foot, regular training to deal with the symptoms, maintaining good foot care, cessation of smoking, blood glucose management, treatment of high cholesterol, exercise therapy, and weight loss. Medication may also be used, including antiplatelet therapy, lipid-lowering therapy, and blood pressure management. Minimally invasive treatments are performed for PAD when the symptoms of leg pain cause severe limitations in daily activities despite the use of medication and failure to get relief from exercise and medical treatment. If conservative treatments did not help relieve the symptoms and they may be associated with a risk of foot ulcers or gangrene, the physician will determine the need for the procedure.

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a condition in which the arteries that supply the legs and feet become narrow or clogged, leading to reduced blood flow. This condition affects 3-12% of people who are 40 years old and above, and 20% of those who are above 70 years old. Chronic leg cramping, pain or fatigue in the muscles of the calves, thighs, or buttocks that gets worse during activities like walking or climbing stairs, and goes away after a few minutes of rest, but repeated movement causes pain again, are symptoms that may indicate the presence of PAD. There are non-modifiable and modifiable risk factors that increase the likelihood of developing this condition. The non-modifiable risk factors include age (above 50 years old), genetic factors, or presence of diseases like diabetes or kidney disease. Modifiable risk factors include smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood levels of homocysteine. Our team can help you discover more information about peripheral arterial disease treatment.
